Statement
Zemma Mastin White’s work has
been shown extensively in Connecticut and is included in many private
collections in the mid-west, southeast and most prominently throughout
New England. Her work can be seen at the Reeves Contemporary Gallery
in Chelsea, New York. Exhibits include The Katonah Museum of Art,
The Mattatuck Museum, The Discovery Museum, The Lancaster Museum
of Art, the Silvermine Arts Guild, and The Munson Gallery. Her most
recent corporate acquisition is with The Neuberger Berman Collection.
During the last several years she has been exploring the innumerable
possibilities in printmaking, and in 2006 she collaborated with
master printer Sarah Amos at the Great River Arts Institute. Each
printmaking technique offers its own unique attribute. By combining
several techniques she has discovered a new expressive language.
Her focus has been on using a combination of collograph, monotype
and chine colle. Printing on several kinds of Japanese paper enables
her to create transparent layers that fuse with the base layer.
This transparent layer creates a texture and sense of intrigue,
images reappear and disappear within the surface, creating a gentle
tension in the work. These layers create a richness and depth to
the surface. Journeying into her light-splashed shapes she creates
a provocative mixture of rhythm, harmony, melodic line, color and
form. The artist lives in Washington, Connecticut with her husband
and two sons.
