How can I warm up to an unwanted family pet (puppy)?

Recently, my family went out an bought a puppy. I’m not fond of dogs and my last pet (a cat) ran away and I’m still not over it. The puppy is constantly trying to play with me, but I’m not really into it, but I feel guilty when I scold it. Any suggestions?

Why are you scolding a baby that has only love and affection to give you? You know, deep down, that you’re being bang out of order and need to stop and thats really easy. Look into that puppy’s eyes right now and imagine how he feels? Put yourself in his little shoes – - – he’s been taken away from his mummy, his brothers and sisters that he loved to play with and who loved him unconditionally and bought into a home that is very strange, with strange food and strange people and only a few people really like him! The one person he’s taken with and wants to love and play with doesn’t love him or want to play with him and its hurting him! He’s thinking ” what have i done wrong? I’m only being friendly and want to play but this person really doesn’t like me and i’m all confused?” Its not your pups fault that your cat ran away and although you’re not keen on dogs, you could, if you wanted to, get to know him and love him just as he loves you, despite how you’re treating him! Why don’t you take him for a walk around the block and see how much he rely’s on you for protection? Watch him keep looking at you when you’re walking, to see if you’re still there! If you really, really cant take to him, then stay out of his way, its not your house, it belongs to your parents and that little baby was bought into the house by them, therefore its their dog, however, it would be so very nice if you could bond with him, it’ll open up a whole new world to you i promise.
