Statement
Art has the ability to reconsider the everyday,
to hone the normal until it becomes abnormal, maybe something remarkable.
Every medium has its strengths and weaknesses in
this task. I've chosen painting because I enjoy the process of making
things, of using my hands. But more importantly I enjoy working
within the boundaries of the material on a 2-dimensional surface,
to push the medium, to see what it is and is not capable of conveying.
I paint ordinary experiences touched by something
strange. Glitches, coincidences, things that are just slightly off,
those anomalies that are part of life, but seldom noticed. These
occurrences that may come from history, imagination, or electrical
interference, their origin is unimportant, what is important is
their ability to cast new light on reality. In my work I use specific
places to impart these ideas. They are the framework that I test
my abilities and the possibilities of paint against. In using these
places and events I hope to be able to honor them by creating a
language with the paint to be able to transform them into a metaphorical
experience.
