Painting on Canva paper?

When I paint on canva paper, it seems like all the paint is just getting sucked into it. Is there a way I can make it less absorbent, but not so it doesn’t have any hold at all?

Always gesso your canvas, especially if you use oil paint. Linseed oil destroys the fibers in canvas. Gesso seals the surface so that paint does not sink in or destroy the fabric. In olden times, gesso was made from animal glue and chalk.
