Statement

FANCY, aptly describes the playful, whimsical and elegant aspects of John Monti’s new work. Composed of cast rubber and plastics, these vibrant sculptures aim to “please,” giving us visual pleasure. Taking cues from fashion, design, pop imagery and decorative arts, Monti’s sculpture makes no apology for being beautiful or being flip. Covering the walls and the floor, the rosettes, arabesques, beauty spots and smiles come together to a riotous delight.

John Monti was born in Portland, Oregon and lives and works in Brooklyn with his wife Irene Hultman and their son, Karl. He has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally. His work is included in major private and public collections, including The Eli Broad Family Foundation, The Brooklyn Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Grants include the New York Foundation for the Arts, Tiffany Foundation and the NEA.
