Artist Statement
My work comments on and analyzes suburban figurative
and architectural themes. I convey the familiar interplay between
commonplace scenes and indistinct, yet emotional, figures. Simultaneously,
I have been exploring scenes that expose modern architectural interiors
within the cultural landscape of suburbia. The painting's nondescript
figures ask for self-reflective interpretations of their emotional
state. This expression allows the viewer to form a relationship
between the work and their own human experience. The essence of
the subject and place is conveyed through light and visually intriguing
shapes and colors in a style she calls painterly realism. My paintings
communicate a vision of American cultural norms and ideals while
also questioning identity and conformity in modern society.
